Laura Hadzik

Partner
Laura Hadzik joined JMW in October 2023 as a Partner and Co-Head of the Commercial Road Transport department.

Laura has extensive experience advising operators of commercial vehicles across the haulage, coach and bus sectors nationwide. Her particular expertise lies in the licensing and regulation of commercial vehicles. She is recognised as a leading lawyer in this specialist area and has developed an enviable reputation.

Laura’s expertise includes:
  • Traffic Commissioner hearings - Public Inquiries, Preliminary Hearings and Driver Conduct Hearings
  • Appeals to the Upper Tribunal
  • Advice and representation in connection with DVSA, police, Environment Agency, Health and Safety Executive, HMRC, UK Border Force, and Trading Standards investigations relating to the use of commercial vehicles
  • Advising passenger vehicle operators in connection with bus reliability and punctuality and BODS matters
  • Operator Licensing - applications for new Operator’s Licensing, variations to existing Operator Licences
  • Advice in connection with the Operator’s Licence implications arising from business restructures, acquisitions or insolvency proceedings
  • Proactive training on vehicle maintenance, drivers’ hours and other driver management compliance systems required by the operator licence undertakings

Scott Bell

Partner
Scott joined JMW in October 2023 as a Partner and Co-Head of the Commercial Road Transport department.   Scott is recognised nationally as a market-leading specialist in the licensing and regulation of Commercial Road Transport Operators. His expertise covers the haulage, coach and bus sectors and includes:  

  • Public Inquiry, Preliminary Hearings and Driver Conduct Hearings before the Traffic Commissioner
  • Appeals against Traffic Commissioner decisions to the Upper Tribunal
  • Applications for new goods vehicle and passenger vehicle Operator’s Licences and variations to existing Operator’s Licences
  • Advice and representation in connection with DVSA, police, Trading Standards, Environment Agency, Health and Safety Executive, HMRC, and UK Border Force investigations relating to the use of commercial vehicles
  • Restructuring of transport businesses in connection with acquisitions or insolvency proceedings
  • Bus reliability and punctuality investigations  
  • Proactive advice and training in respect of vehicle maintenance, drivers’ hours and driver management compliance systems for the purposes of the Operator’s Licence undertakings  


Transport is in Scott’s DNA, as prior to becoming a solicitor, Scott worked in the logistics sector including time at TNT Express (now FedEx) in both operational and legal roles. This has given him a real insight into the needs of a transport business from the inside.  

Scott has been recognised by the UK Chambers and Partners directory of leading lawyers and is quoted as being “an expert in his discipline and is highly recommended for any regulatory road transport advice”.  

Paul Chamberlain

Partner
Paul is head of the JMW’s Employment team and brings with him nearly 30 years’ employment law experience. 

He has a particular interest (and nationally-recognised expertise) in the law relating to the recruitment industry, advising and providing training on employment status issues, the Agency Workers’ Regulations, GLAA matters, the Working Time Regulations and industry-specific regulatory compliance matters.

He has long-standing associations with TEAM (The Employment Agents’ Movement), REC (Recruitment and Employment Confederation), ALP (Association of Labour Providers) and FCSA (Freelancers and Contractor Services Association).

Simon Bloch

Partner
Simon is head of JMW's Employment department having joined the firm in September 2017 as a Partner.

Simon has a specific expertise in working with clients in the recruitment sector and has worked with clients in this sector since 2007.

He has extensive knowledge and understanding about the Agency Workers’ Regulations and regulatory legislation that govern how employment agencies can operate.

Simon has worked with a number of the recruitment trade associations and their members.

Simon regularly assists businesses put in place compliant contractual terms.

Simon has significant experience and expertise in advising recruitment businesses with restrictive covenant disputes and has specific expertise in the issues arising from the use of social media.

In addition, Simon also has a general employment practice.
